In the 1990s, Tamás Dúzsi founded his Szekszárd estate on reclaimed land that had been nationalized under communism. For this red, the Dúzsi family organically grows and hand-harvests Kadarka, a rare native Hungarian varietal. The grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation in large open barrels. The wine ages for a year in used large Hungarian oak. The nose presents preserved cherry, dried cranberry, and the allure of fennel. The palate is characterized by its delicate tannins with notes of forest floor, balanced dark red fruit, dried herbs, and spice. Pair it with a spread of mushroom pate, dark chocolate, and artisan bread.
