Made with a blend featuring Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, it delivers a complex and balanced experience. Pairing: A versatile choice for a variety of culinary pairings.
"The Priorat region is a small yet revered, incredibly historic winemaking region on the Southern border of Spain known for its big bold reds. The wild landscape is comprised of steep, terraced vineyards that were first cultivated by Carthusian Monks from Provence in the 1100’s, thus the preponderance of Southern French varietals. In the 1980’s, after nearly 100 years dormant, a small band of intrepid winemakers led by Rene Barbier revitalized the region and introduced the construction of Clos - or prized, walled-in vineyards, of which Clos Martinet was one of the first. At Mas Martinet, winemaker Sara Perez biodynamically farms this historic landscape. For Clos Martinet, the Garnatxa (Grenache), Caranyana (Carignan), and Syrah grapes are harvested from one parcel, after which they age in a combination of clay amphora and glass demijohns for 17 months. The nose offers voluptuous dark berry aromas, yet the palate is medium-light bodied with delicate tannins and flavors of licorice, iron, and blackberry. This is a beautiful wine to pair with lamb and mushrooms."
