A standout selection, the 2021 Las Vedras Limo Vinho Branco showcases the expertise of Las Vedras. This exceptional wine is crafted in the heart of Lisboa, Portugal, benefitng from the local terroir. Featuring Roussanne, Marsanne, Arinto grapes, this selection highlights the unique qualities of its composition.
"The husband and wife team, Sónia Raposo and Pedro Marques, started Las Vedras in 2019 by purchasing a few plots around Torres Vedras, 30 miles outside of Lisbon, and leasing others from trusted neighbors. With a modest 2.5 hectares total of coveted 25-85 year old vines grown on clay-limestone soils that are influenced by Atlantic winds, they make exceptionally vibrant, savory wines. Limo Branco is a white blend comprised of 40% co-planted French varieties including Roussanne, Marsanne, Semillon, and, Petit Manseng, from a small parcel planted by the late Antonio Carvalho of Casal Figueira in Bombarral, a bit north of the village of Pero Negro. The rest consists of indigenous Portuguese varietals including Fernão Pires, Arinto and Vital. All grapes go through a short skin soak and are pressed into stainless vats for fermentation and aging. Medium-bodied with a clean profile, the wine has subtle aromatic notes of star fruit and honey melon, with salinity prominently displayed on the palate. The moderate acidity further enhances the structure for this food friendly wine. Perfect pairing for polvo à llagareiro (octopus with olive oil) or sardinhas assadas (grilled sardines)."
