Pianogrillo Terre Siciliane Frappato

The manor house of Pianogrillo, towering above Piana dell’Acate, the fertile plain to the south towards Ragusa, was originally built in the Middle Ages as a watchtower to lookout for, and defend, against the Saracens. Today, the land has been transformed into a diverse, working farm by Lorenzo, the 10th generation Baron of this estate. This 100% Frappatto, indigenous to Sicily, is farmed organically on a mix of sand, limestone and white marl at an elevation of 450-480 meters above sea level. Fermented in temperature controlled stainless tanks, the wine spends a few weeks in large oak casks before being transferred back to stainless. The result is a crisp, light-bodied red with fresh, juicy flavors of ripe red berries that's low in tannin but high in minerality and is complemented by subtle floral and spice aromas. Pairs well pork Milanese or a cheesy arancini with spicy arrabbiata sauce.
